Joe Harkin    Deputy U.S. Marshal       San Francisco, CA

I have worked for the U.S. Marshals for 17 years.  I’ve worked in San Diego, Fresno, Sacramento, Los Angeles.  I currently work in San Francisco.

I married my beautiful wife, Christine, in 2003.  We met at a biathlon in San Mateo, CA in 1999.   We have one son (Huck, 4 yrs.) and his brother or sister, is due March 2010.  I do about 50% of my runs with my boy in the BOB stroller, in the Berkeley hills of Tilden Regional Park(behind the Cal campus).

Since age 7, I grew up playing soccer.  I began running Track and Cross Country in high school to help me with the speed and endurance needed on the soccer field.

I steeple-chased at SDSU, where I finished my B.S. in Criminal Justice Admin.

I have run in several Police&Fire Games.  This is my 4th year as the U.S. Marshal B2V coordinator.  “You can run, but we’ll catch you” is our B2V motto.

I qualified for Boston 2000 at the 1999 Humboldt(CA) Marathon(2:53).  I ran Boston again in 2001.  I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 2004.  I’m a 3-hour marathoner.

This year I was invited to run with “Team 911, We Run Code Three,” in the 199 mile relay run from Calistoga to Santa Cruz.  I look forward to meeting my teammates and learning what this race is all about
